The Old Technology Faces the New one in Egypt

by Carole Talaway
(Helipopolis, Egypt)

old and new technology

old and new technology

My husband and I moved here from Hollywood California a year ago.

My life has undergone a tremendous change.

The best part of it is being able to walk a few blocks to buy everything we need. Food is cheap and fresh, unlike the USA where food may be at the markets for days when you buy it.

But the most incredible thing is that horse drawn drays and donkey carts vie with big foreign cars.

I am amazed when driving on the Ring Road to see minibuses, trucks and cars jockeying for space along with horse and donkey carts.

Also to see people trying to sell things right on the road. Driving in Egypt is always a challenge. All you have to remember is when the light is green emshee, when it's yello emshee emshee, when it's red go like crazy!!
